Community Picnic (aka Luau) a success despite threatening weather

September 28, 2011

The Luau held on Sept. 17th was a hit, albeit a chilly one.  Crabs, ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, barbeque, and a host of side dishes made for a great smorgasbord; bluegrass music provided courtesy of Spoon Creek (starring our own Tom Cratty) made for great entertainment.  As always, the Cake Walk was well attended, with cupcakes a particularly popular item this year.

Susan Shaw, President of the Calvert County Board of Commissioners, came and stayed much of the evening, and Commissioner Evan Slaughenhoupt also stopped by.  (All the county commissioners were invited, as was Sheriff Mike Evans.)   Threatening weather kept us from utilizing the big bonfire pit and brought the main festivities to a slightly premature end, but gave us a beautiful sky in return.  Thanks to the KBCA organizers, setup crew, cleanup crew, takedown crew and cooks (who are all the same people) for making the event a success.
